Roof & wall panels

R-Panel

R-panel is an exposed-fastener metal panel with tall trapezoidal ribs and smaller stiffening ribs between them. It is fastened through the face of the panel, and it is one of the most widely used profiles for metal buildings, shops, and commercial roofs and walls.

Overview

What is R-panel?

The rib pattern gives R-panel its stiffness and its practical, industrial look. It is used on roofs and walls, on new construction and re-roofs, and on everything from barns and shops to commercial and industrial facilities. Because the panels are fastened directly through the face, installation is straightforward, which makes R-panel a practical choice for large areas.

Characteristics

Key characteristics.

  • Exposed fastening

Panels are fastened through the face, typically with gasketed screws, into the framing or substrate below.

  • Trapezoidal major ribs

Tall ribs at regular intervals give the panel its strength and form the overlap where panels meet.

  • Minor stiffening ribs

Smaller ribs in the flats between major ribs help the panel stay flat and rigid.

  • Roof and wall

One profile covers both the roof and the walls of a building, simplifying the material package.

Questions

Common questions.

What is the difference between R-panel and PBR panel?

The two profiles look alike. PBR (purlin bearing rib) adds an extended leg on the overlapping edge that bears on the purlin, giving more contact at the side lap. Ask us which profile suits your project.

Can R-panel be used for both roofs and walls?

Yes. R-panel is commonly used on both, which is part of why it is so widely used on metal buildings and shops.
